Welcome

Information technology(IT) manager plan, administer and review the acquisition, development, maintenance and use of computers and telecommunications systems within organisation. The IT Manager is often the most senior person in the IT department.

Duties and Tasks

The IT Manager may perform the following tasks:
  • work out current and future IT needs by consulting with people at all levels and the current work systems and deciding how improvements could be made.
  • analyse the information needs of an organisation and develop technological solutions to satisfy those needs.
  • provide advice to other senior managers and board on IT issues and planning.
  • prepare or direct IT policy and plan strategy development.
  • control the security aspects of IT systems.
  • work out priorities for systems developments, maintance and operations.
  • direct activities to select and install major IT facilities
  • direct the integration of IT operations, computer hardware, operation systems, communications, software applications and data processing.
  • oversee the provision of training for staffs and clients.
The responsibilities of the IT department include:
  • Operation of the IT infrastructure:
    • Data communications networks.
    • Voice communication systems
    • Transport of video communication
    • Basic support services:
      1. Operating systems
      2. Utilities
      3. Maintanance
      4. 24/7 days operations support
      5. Backups and recovery
    • Basic office support applications:
      1. E-mail
      2. Calendaring
      3. MS Office
  • Administrative technology support
    • Imaging.
    • Staff systems
    • Financial systems
    • Human resource systems
  • Website design and updates
